BEYOND PAJAMAS: THE ART OF SLEEPING

Teh Chia Li, our Licensed and Registered Counsellor from the Student Services Department, curated and led “The Art of Sleeping” workshop for 13 enthusiastic students on 6 December 2023.

Structured into six illuminating sections, the workshop seamlessly blended insightful education with interactive activities. Commencing with a vibrant ice-breaking session, students delved into personal introductions intertwined with a spirited game of “this or that,” fostering a warm, inclusive ambiance.

The scientific underpinnings of sleep emerged in Section 2, where the workshop delved into the intricacies of circadian rhythms, the influence of light on sleep, and the various sleep stages. This was followed by a thought-provoking exploration of the importance of quality sleep, illuminating its role in immunity, weight management, and emotional well-being.

Transitioning into practical engagement, Section 4 immersed participants in a calming breathing exercise, allowing them to experience the benefits of “belly” breathing firsthand. The subsequent role-playing activity sparked insightful discussions within smaller groups, tackling the impact of negative self-talk on sleep and strategizing ways to manage intrusive thoughts, particularly at night.

The workshop buzzed with interactive energy as students freely exchanged personal insights and tips on improving sleep. The event reached an unexpected high point when Rachel Lim Joe Wie, dressed in charming cow-print pajamas, was awarded the title of Best Dressed, graciously accepting chamomile tea as her prize.
