PETALING JAYA, 10th February, 2019<\/strong> \u2013 Tertiary education is of great importance in this era of rapid development and stiff competition in the employment market. To live up to the demanding requirements employers seek from their candidates, graduates are required to be equipped with the relevant skills and knowledge needed to survive and grow in the competitive industry.<\/p>\n

First City University College has been in the forefront of producing highly-employable and award-winning graduates successfully for almost 30 years. Some of the institution\u2019s graduates have also become successful entrepreneurs in various fields.<\/p>\n

With the aspiration of keeping up the momentum of producing quality graduates, the Faculty of Business, Hospitality and Communication Studies at First City University College offers a wide range of programmes in Business, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Accounting and Finance, Mass Communication and, Hospitality and Tourism Management.<\/p>\n

The programmes at the Faculty are accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The programmes focus on building professionalism and nurturing students\u2019 personal career development through industry links and internship placement. For instance, the Foundation in Business Administration programme serves as a pre-university route to degree programmes. The 3-semester programme is designed to introduce students to the bustling world of business and beyond.<\/p>\n

Upon completion of this Foundation programme, students will get to continue their studies in a wide range of degree programmes and majors. The Faculty can be described as a \u201cOne-Stop Business Centre\u201d which offers a wide range of business majors. However, students who aspire to pursue their studies in the field of Hospitality and Tourism Management will have the liberty to<\/p>\n

do so by selecting specific elective modules in the Foundation programme to provide for a direct linkage to the Hospitality and Tourism Management degree programme.<\/p>\n

First City University College\u2019s history in establishing education partnership with foreign reputable universities from the United Kingdom and Switzerland has resulted in several programmes at the Faculty being validated and recognized by the University College\u2019s foreign partner universities.<\/p>\n

For instance, the education partnership with HTMi, Hotel and Tourism Management Institute Switzerland for the Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management programme enables Hospitality & Tourism students to obtain external awards as well as gain direct entry into the final year of the degree programme at HTMi which includes paid internship training, as well as employment opportunities overseas. Many Hospitality & Tourism students of First City University College have proceeded to complete the final year of their degree programme at HTMi and were offered employment in many countries overseas, such as Japan, Maldives, and Switzerland.<\/p>\n

The Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management programme offers a comprehensive curriculum for students who aspire to make a career in this field. Upon completion of this programme, students will be able to demonstrate an advanced knowledge of kitchen management, tourism planning, and, food and beverage management. Students will attend an internship programme in which they have the opportunity to go through a hands-on learning experience at leading hotels, travel agencies, event companies, food service outlets and entertainment service providers.<\/p>\n

The duration of this programme is two years and it is segregated into six semesters. Graduates from this programme will have the opportunity to hold managerial roles in event management firms, hotels, travel and tour agencies, and, food and beverage service providers. What\u2019s more interesting, students will be taken through an enriching learning experience which includes students\u2019 project presentations as part of the Tourism Geography module in the first year of their course.<\/p>\n

Every year, students present their projects according to the set themes for each year which saw such themes as gastronomy presentation and cultural dance. The most recent presentation was a set-up of Malaysian wedding as the theme for the year 2018 was \u201clocal scape\u201d.<\/p>\n
