First City University College recently held the 2017 edition of annual Diploma Graduate Showcase featuring design artworks by 17 students from its Faculty of Design & Built Environment. During the event, students studying Diploma in Interactive Design and Diploma in Interior Design programmes displayed their best design artwork and portfolios produced throughout their 2-years study period. The 3-days event, open to the public, was well attended by First City UC\u2019s executive management team, members of the faculty, representatives from companies within the design industry who are looking for employable fresh talents and external examiners to assess the portfolios. Many of the students\u2019 proud parents also turned up to view the outcome of their children\u2019s education journey.<\/p>\n

For these students, the showcase, themed \u201crepre-sent\u201d was an avenue for them to put on display works which represent the essence of who they are: a collection of their skills, talents, personalities and ambitions. During the course of their studies, they have worked on many presentations for their coursework, therefore the showcase was a way to symbolise the formal presentation of their hard work and passion. The showcase was made even more memorable for the staff and students as this was the first event held at the faculty\u2019s new White Canvas Gallery since its move to the Phase II building in March. First City UC students, especially from the Design faculty have been able to enjoy the new facilities as it offers more lecture rooms, studios and laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment, a new library, IT Centre, MBA Centre, cafeteria, on-campus accommodation and indoor recreational courts.<\/p>\n

The diploma students were very proud of their artworks on display during the showcase, of which they were very involved in organising.<\/em><\/p>\n

Mandy Chan Wai Mun, the president of the student committee said she was thrilled to organise and host this showcase together with her peers. She shared, \u201cFor this showcase, we have been able to apply design skills we learnt as interactive and interior designers to put up a great show which we are really proud of. We have worked hard together, struggled together and encouraged one another throughout the entire process of organising this event. What is more important is that this journey we took together will forever be in our memories; because above all else, and despite all the challenges we faced, the most important part is the FUN we had together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apart from the above Diploma programmes, First City UC\u2019s Faculty of Design & Built Environment also offers\u00a0Foundation in Art & Design<\/strong>programme leading to bachelor\u2019s degree in\u00a0Interior Architecture & Design, Graphic Design\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Furniture & Product Design.\u00a0<\/strong>These degree programmes are offered in collaboration with First City UC\u2019s new United Kingdom university partner, the\u00a0Manchester Metropolitan University\u00a0<\/strong>which commences in\u00a0August 2017<\/strong>. In the near future, the faculty is also launching its first postgraduate programme, the\u00a0MA Design Management<\/strong>\u00a0as a pathway from the existing degree courses.<\/p>\n

The FDBE organizes the Diploma Graduate Showcase annually to provide an avenue for its students to present their design portfolios to industry key players.<\/em><\/p>\n

INTAKE IN PROGRESS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Registration is open for programmes at Foundation, Degree and Master level for\u00a0intakes in July, August, September and October 2017<\/strong>. Students will be able to enjoy the\u00a0Early Bird Discount\u00a0<\/strong>off the first semester\u2019s tuition fees if they register\u00a0NOW<\/strong>.
