The Faculty of Engineering and Computing (FEC) held an insightful session on “Safety and Health Awareness in Workplace and University” on 13 December 2023. Aimed at fostering a comprehensive understanding of occupational safety and health, the session delved into the pivotal aspects outlined by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1994.<\/p>\n

Led by an industry expert and a professional from The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) who is well-versed in safety protocols, the talk meticulously elaborated on the fundamental principles encapsulated within the Act. Central to the discourse was the Act’s commitment to ensuring the safety, health, and welfare of individuals within workplace settings and around university environments.<\/p>\n

A significant focal point of the session revolved around Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC). Attendees were enlightened on the crucial steps involved in this process – from recognizing and categorizing potential hazards within work areas and academic settings to meticulously evaluating associated risks and proposing effective control measures.<\/p>\n

Engaging with both FEC staff and students specializing in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, the event sought to instill a profound grasp of OSH principles. The objective was clear: to empower participants to seamlessly integrate the OSH system into their daily routines, thereby fostering a culture of safety consciousness and proactive risk management.<\/p>\n
