COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – STUDENTS SUPPORT PAWS MISSION

Seven students from the team-building modules participated in a community engagement initiative at Paws Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) on 22 April 2024. The purpose of the initiative was to support animal welfare while fostering teamwork among the students through direct involvement with the shelter’s residents.

The students embraced their volunteer roles by caring for the animals upon arrival at PAWS. Their tasks included walking the dogs, providing companionship, and assisting with grooming duties such as bathing and brushing. Their efforts were guided with care and support for the animals, ensuring that the animals felt comfortable and contented in their temporary homes.

A key aspect of the team’s mission was fundraising. The students engaged in arts and crafts to raise funds for PAWS, supporting the shelter’s efforts in providing veterinary care, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and adoption services for the animals.

Yuki Leong Yew Kei noted that “Working with PAWS gives you practical experience in animal care and welfare, including handling and caring for various animals and understanding their behavior.” Ng Jiuan Xue on the other hand, emphasized the impact on the community, stating, “Through PAWS, you can make a positive impact by helping reduce animal overpopulation and promoting responsible pet ownership.”

The students’ efforts and fundraising activities provided crucial support to the shelter, making a difference in the lives of the animals. Their involvement with PAWS was a meaningful experience that allowed them to make a positive difference while growing personally and collectively.
