Four students from the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology; Cornileus Jasper Patrick, Lee Zhi Guan, Ong Kai Jie, and Cheah Jing Suan—participated in the TCS Sustainathon Malaysia, Empowering Women in STEM Competition on 3 April 2024. They were accompanied by their lecturers, Dr. Mas Izzati Binti Fazin and Nik Nur Adlin Binti Nik Qausbee. This competition, organized by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), took place at the Asia School of Business in Kuala Lumpur.

The main goal of the competition was to encourage more women to join STEM fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, emphasizing their unique problem-solving abilities. It also aimed to highlight the significant contributions women can make in STEM, including research, technological innovation, and tackling major global challenges.

This competition provided valuable learning experiences for the students. They had the opportunity to present real-world ideas, develop concise 5-minute presentations, and collaborate on projects. Additionally, they benefited from interacting with experts in the field.

Reflecting on the event, lecturer Nik Nur Adlin Binti Nik Qausbee said, “This competition gives us exposure to interdisciplinary perspectives of STEM. It also gives us the chance to engage with researchers, industrial, innovators and educators

Lee Zhi Guan remarked, “The competition journey may be over, but the feeling of growth and learning is just starting! It was incredible meeting so many talented people, and I’m so grateful for the experience. Looking forward to what’s next to come!”
