PETALING JAYA, 4th March 2016 – First City University College (First City UC) will be organising an inaugural charity event called “First City Charity Big Walk”, scheduled to take place on Saturday, 2nd April 2016. The early morning walk, covering a 4.2 kilometer route around Bandar Utama is meant to create positive public concern for the needs of the disabled community.

The event, which is open to students and members of the public, will start with the walk at 6.30 a.m. After the walk, there will be shopping bazaars and mini-concert performed by local artistes such as national violinist Dr. Joanne Yeoh, Malaysian Idol Daniel Lee, singer and actor Huang Qi Ming, online media celebrity and actor Sean Lee as well as Chinese chamber ensemble, The Oriental Rhythms, followed by a complimentary photo session with the celebrities.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to four selected institutions, namely Beautiful Gate Foundation for the Disabled, Lovely Disabled Home, Society of Independent Living for Disabled Selangor and Malaysia Parents with Disabilities Association.

Ms. Yeong Yin Cheng, First City UC’s Chief Operating Officer said, “This event is First City UC’s corporate responsibility initiative, as caring for our disabled brothers and sisters is a noble cause. We appreciate the support we are receiving from our partners and sponsors to make this event a success”.

The Charity Big Walk, with the tagline “Arise. Walk for Hope. Walk for Charity” is organised by First City UC, executed by over one hundred students from its Mata Pelajaran Umum (MPU) subject, Hospitality and Mass Communications programmes together with members of the institution’s Student Council.

Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Haji Yahaya bin Ibrahim, First City UC’s Chancellor said, “The involvement of our students as part of the organising team in projects such as this embodies our philosophy of providing holistic education which aims to produce well-rounded individuals. The opportunity to participate in organizing an event like this not only sharpens their management and organisation skills, but also allows them to experience compassion and empathy for those who are less fortunate”.

“We have been working very hard for this, as we are committed to do our part in helping the disabled. Therefore, we are hopeful for support from all levels of the society. Together, we can make a difference“, added Ms. Florence Kuek, Head of the Student Affairs & Services Department.
