Mohamad Saiful Sazwan bin Mohd Rashid, representing the Faculty of Design & Built Environment (FDBE) at First City University College, eagerly participated in the Malaysia International Furniture Fair (MIFF) 2024 Industry Seminar Series and Exhibition held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).

The event commenced with an engaging design forum, expertly moderated by Dr. Eric Leong, Chief Judge of the 2024 MIFF Furniture Design Competition. Following the forum, Prof. Dr. Jegatheswaran Ratnasingam from UPM led an enlightening session, delving into crucial aspects of the furniture industry. These sessions equipped Mohamad Saiful with a deeper understanding of sustainable practices and technological advancements shaping the sector.

The exhibition itself was a testament to Malaysian creativity and craftsmanship. Malaysian-inspired products and furniture adorned the halls, showcasing the exquisite use of materials such as rattan and local wood. Of particular interest were the Malaysian motifs incorporated into the designs, including the iconic rafflesia flower and the much loved ‘nasi lemak,’ reflecting the nation’s rich cultural heritage.

Moreover, Mohamad Saiful had the opportunity to witness the culmination of talent in the MIFF Furniture Design Competition 2024, where twenty finalists from Malaysian design institutions showcased their innovative creations. Observing these designs firsthand undoubtedly inspired Mohamad Saiful and provided him with fresh perspectives on design aesthetics and functionality.

Overall, FDBE’s participation in the MIFF 2024 Industry Seminar Series and Exhibition proved immensely beneficial. It served as a platform for its representative to network with industry experts, gain insights into global design trends, and appreciate the significance of cultural heritage and sustainability in furniture design. This experience undoubtedly enriched the representative’s professional journey at FDBE, empowering him to contribute meaningfully to the students and the faculty in general.
