MAKING A DIFFERENCE – STUDENTS’ CONTRIBUTION TO HUNGER ALLEVIATION
Eight students from the Team Building Module participated in a volunteering initiative at The Assembly Soup Kitchen on 30 March 2024. The team comprised of Yee Zhi Mi, Shum Kean Wah, Asyiqin binti Mohamad Jaafar, Leong Mei Hui, Foong Jia Xin, Tong Kar Chun, and Kuah Ping Juen.
The students addressed the hunger directly within the community. They dedicated their time to help prepare and distribute food to homeless individuals.
This activity was part of their ongoing efforts to support non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working toward hunger alleviation, with the funds raised during their recent campaign being donated to these organizations.
The students actively contributed in the volunteering initiative to ensure that there was zero hunger from the homeless people. Thus, they successfully achieved the 2nd Sustainable Development Goal (SDG): Zero Hunger. This initiative not only made a positive impact locally but enable the students to gain a deeper understanding of the broader challenges associated with food insecurity.
Reflecting on their experience, Yee Zhi Mi shared, “It was a very new experience, and I found a lot of fun during the activity.” Similarly, Cheng Wei Hern commented, “The volunteering experience was thoroughly interesting; we were assigned to different tasks, and each of us enjoyed ourselves throughout the day.”
This experience served as a reminder of the power of unity and compassion in making a meaningful difference in the lives of others and inspired them to continue their journey of service and contribution to society.
