Malaysia is home to various talented and successful designers, as evidenced by celebrated figures names such as Jimmy Choo, Farah Khan, Zang Toi and Red Hong Yi.

Students keen to pursue a design-centred career are encouraged to consider either the Graphic Design or Interior Architecture & Design Bachelor Degree programme. Both are offered by First City University College’s Faculty of Design & Built Environment which boasts an academic staff with a wealth of industry experience.

Students holding a Foundation, UEC or A-Level qualification will be enrolled into Year 1 of either programme whereas students with a relevant Diploma will gain progression into Year 2.

As part of the curriculum, students will have the opportunity to engage industry partners for collaborative projects, attend talks and participate in both local and overseas competitions. Also, they are to participate in a mandatory Graduate Showcase event. This serves as part of First City UC’s efforts to ensure students emerge with marketable industry skills.

Graphic Design Bachelor Degree programme (BGD)

The Graphic Design Bachelor Degree programme aims to equip students with the essential professional, creative, intellectual and technical skills to join the graphic design industry.

To this end, students will be exposed to professional design practices and learn to contextualise design within global, social and cultural frameworks.

Moreover, First City UC’s design students will intern at various well-known advertising, social media marketing, packaging, publication and exhibition companies. These opportunities are made possible through First City UC’s valuable industry linkages.

Interior Architecture & Design Bachelor Degree programme (BIAD)

Meanwhile, the Interior Architecture & Design (IAD) Bachelor Degree programme aims to develop students’ theory and practical skills for a professional career in interior design. This is mainly achieved through equipping students with knowledge and research skills in interior architecture technology and development.

IAD students will benefit from a membership paid by First City UC with the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID), where they will be provided the latest news on the industry.

Via First City UC’s industry linkages, students are given an opportunity to undergo internships with various interior design and architecture companies, property developers, product design companies, exhibition design and theater & stage design companies. Through this experience, they may refine their leadership, teamwork, entrepreneurial, communication and social skills.
