MASTERING BUSINESS AT FIRST CITY UC

An MBA, or Master of Business Administration programme is a popular choice of studies for anyone wishing to advance their career to a leadership position, or pursue a new career. According to the Journal of Management Development by University Malaya, “Nearly 94 per cent of 109 employers involved in the study preferred individuals with analytical ability, having competent leadership and managerial skills as well as possessing good work ethics. About 92 per cent of them stressed the importance of having good interpersonal, creative and innovative skills as well as the ability to work as a team. Business schools should therefore ensure that their MBA graduates would be able to assist employers achieve their expectations.”

In 2017, First City UC is fulfilling that requirement by offering a new Master of Business Administration dual award programme in collaboration with its longstanding university partner from the United Kingdom, the Anglia Ruskin University (ARU). The university, well regarded for its quality teaching and support, is one of the largest universities in the East of England with 35,000 students from 177 countries. The Times Higher Education’s (THE) World University Rankings named it one of the top 350 institutions in the world and joint 38th best in the UK. The Lord Ashcroft International Business School (LAIBS) at ARU is ranked among the top 50 Business Schools in Accounting and Finance in the UK, according to the 2017 UK Guardian League Table report.

Upon completion of the programme, students will receive degree certificates from both of these institutions; providing them with recognition and validation from two higher education providers to give them the edge which will set them apart from their peers.

Programme features

Given the many choices of universities offering this same programme locally, why would a student opt to pursue an MBA at First City UC? At the University College, students will benefit from the specifically-designed curriculum to cater to the needs and demands of the industry so that graduates emerge as top notch executives who can lead and manage their organisations. They can enjoy flexibility when pursuing this course by opting for either the full-time (1 year) or part-time (2 years) mode of study to fit in their schedules.

The postgraduate programme utilises case studies delivered by experienced lecturers who are PhD and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) holders to enrich students’ knowledge and thinking skills while enlightening them on the different aspects of business management and strategies. This will ensure graduates are equipped with broad business knowledge and various management skills to prepare them to take on managerial roles upon graduation.

Another benefit which can be enjoyed is the chance of students joining an extensive business and professional network across cultures and industries at ARU and First City UC. This will open up a whole world of opportunities for the students to connect with their peers and get themselves familiarised with the inner workings of the industries they have interest in.

First City UC’s commitment in providing the best quality education is evident in the efforts it takes to expose students to real-life situations and leverage on its many industry linkages across sectors such as banking, manufacturing, finance, and telecommunication. Throughout the course of the programme, it organises lectures by visiting academics or industry specialists to impart their knowledge and skills to the students, offering them insider knowledge and valuable insights of real-world processes. With all these knowledge and experience, it is no surprise that many of First City UC’s alumni have been able to secure jobs at reputable companies and world renowned corporations – with some, even before they graduate.
