STUDENTS FROM THE FACULTY OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY SECURE 2ND PLACE IN MALAYSIA-CHINA YOUTH INNOVATION COMPETITION
We are thrilled to celebrate our students’ achievement in securing 2nd place in the 3rd Malaysia-China Youth Innovation Competition held on 29 June 2024. Their innovative project titled, “Simpanlah”, earned the winning team members from the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology—Cornelius Jasper Patrick, Lee Zhi Guan, Carmen Lau Kar-Wei, and Ong Kai Jie—a generous cash price of 2,000 for their outstanding efforts.
“SimpanLah” is a mobile app designed to help students find part-time jobs and encourages them to save a portion of their earnings for future goals, such as loan repayments or additional education expenses. The app also includes financial literacy resources to promote responsible borrowing habits and potential investment returns, fostering financial independence among future generations. This initiative impressed the judges with its practical application and potential impact on students’ lives.
The competition, organised by Xiamen University Malaysia and several esteemed partners, aimed to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among university students. It provides a platform for young innovators to showcase their ideas and solutions to global challenges.
First City University College is immensely proud of Cornelius Jasper Patrick, Lee Zhi Guan, Carmen Lau Kar-Wei, and Ong Kai Jie. Their success is a testament to their hard work and the supportive academic environment that nurtures such talent. Their accomplishment serves as an inspiration to their peers and a reminder of the incredible potential that lies within the student community.
