ACHIEVE YOUR ENGINEERING POTENTIAL
AT FIRST CITY UC
Any aspiring engineer needs to be familiar with latest technological innovations brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (I.R 4.0).
After all, the future of their workplace is continuously being shaped by buzzwords such as Embedded Systems, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence and Automation.
Boasting over 30 years’ experience under its belt, First City University College has successfully guided many students through the fast changing engineering industry. Its Faculty of Engineering & Computing (FEC) offers up-to-date engineering programmes which are taught by a team of qualified lecturers with deep insights in the industry.
Students holding a Foundation, UEC or A-Level qualification will be enrolled into Year 1 of FEC’s Bachelor Degree programme whereas students with a relevant Diploma will gain progression into Year 2.
FEC students at First City UC will enjoy access to up-to-date course materials and cutting edge equipment such as the IoT Development Kit, PCB Plotter, Lathe Machine and Milling Machine.
Moreover, students will be required to conceptualise and implement their own Final Year projects, before showcasing them at the annual Innovation Day event. First City UC’s industry partners have been known to attend this event, even offering jobs to outstanding students.
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours
The Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours programme equips students with a broad range of knowledge and technical skills required to become a certified mechanical engineer.
The programme places emphasis on developing students’ analytical and problem-solving skills, interpersonal communication skills as well as engineering management skills. This prepares them for the prospect of working in an I.R 4.0 centred global environment, while ensuring that they adhere to the social, ethical and professional practices.
Through the mandatory industrial attachment module, students will be able to apply practical knowledge such as usage of the Solid Edge and Solid Works industrial standard software. They will also become acquainted with the relevant work principles and work ethics required in the workplace.
Graduates of this programme have been known to pursue careers in areas such as Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Research, Project Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Technical Support Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Engineering Consultancy or Construction Engineering.
For safety purposes, students will wear protective googles while operating Mechanical Engineering equipment such as the Lathe machine here.
Moreover, First City UC sponsors students’ membership with the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). By attending IEM’s talks, seminars and courses, they may further enhance their own technical and professional skills, thus allowing them to keep abreast with developments in the engineering lab.
Graduates of this programme may register for membership with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) to be certified as professional engineers.
Bachelor of Electronic Engineering with Honours
The Bachelor of Electronic Engineering with Honours programme prepare students to become certified electrical engineers capable of meeting I.R4.0’s challenges.
Throughout this programme, students will study industry-relevant modules touching on electronic devices & circuit design, control systems, signal processing, electronic system design, microchips design, mobile communications as well as embedded systems programming & interfacing.
Students will also learn how to use the Mentor Graphics industrial software, which is commonly involved in designing microchips and integrated circuit.
Facilities such as this Materials and Advanced Manufacturing Process Laboratory provide Electronic Engineering students with the required advanced equipment for their lessons.
Students are also given ample opportunities to demonstrate their problem-solving abilities and interpersonal communication skills through project-based assessments.
Moreover, students will undergo a mandatory industrial attachment with a relevant company to achieve first-hand working experience in a professional engineering environment. This allows them an advantage in securing careers such as Electronic Engineering, IoT Systems Engineering, Communication Engineering, Automation Engineering, Microchips Design, Wireless/5G Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Maintenance Engineering or Project Engineering.
Furthermore, First City UC sponsors students’ membership fee with the Institute of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM). Through IEM’s talks and seminars, students can further improve on their technical and industrial knowledge, contributing to their career development.
Graduates of this programme are encouraged to register with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) in order to be certified as professional engineers.
