FIRST CITY UC FORGING NEW PARTNERSHIPS WITH TAIWAN UNIVERSITIES
First City University College recently signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with two Taiwan universities, namely I-Shou University (ISU) and Kun Shan University (KSU) during the Malaysia-Taiwan Higher Education Forum hosted by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) at its Perak campus in Kampar on 15 October 2016.
The Malaysia-Taiwan Higher Education Forum is a biennial event organised with a view to strengthen education ties between Malaysia and Taiwan institutions of higher learning. This year’s event, themed ‘International Collaboration for Human Capital Development’, brought together over 130 participants from 24 Taiwan universities and 23 Malaysian institutions of higher learning including First City UC. This forum served as a strategic platform for participants to share experiences and insights in areas of academia-industry collaboration, university-university collaboration, and collaboration on technical vocational education and training (TVET).
Since its elevation to University College status in October 2015, First City UC has embarked on a rigorous programme to establish meaningful collaborations with local industries and other institutions of higher learning. Such collaborations may cover areas such as joint research and development, joint publications, organizing of conferences and seminars, training for staff and industrial training placements for students amongst others. These efforts are aimed at enriching our academic programmes as well as enhancing learning and teaching experience for students and staff respectively.
The signing of the MoUs with I-Shou University and Kun Shan University is yet another effort towards achieving these objectives. Both these universities offer programmes similar to First City UC in areas such as Electrical and Information Engineering, Science & Engineering, Business and Management, Communication & Design, Tourism & Hospitality, Creative Media, Information Technology and others. Collaborations under the MoUs with these two Taiwan universities will include student exchanges, research collaboration in areas of mutual interest, information exchange such as library materials and research publications, faculty exchange for the purpose of delivering lectures and engaging in research, mutual participation of faculty in conferences, congresses, and symposia sponsored by each institution, and other agreed joint development activities.
