INTERNATIONAL DESIGN DAY AT THE FACULTY OF DESIGN AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT

The Faculty of Design & Built Environment (FDBE) celebrated International Design Day 2024 with resounding success, showcasing a vibrant blend of creativity and innovation. Launched by FDBE Dean Assistant Professor Chua Huwi Huwi and featuring esteemed Guest Speaker Mohd Izzat bin Abdull Halim, the event unfolded on 23 April 2024, ahead of its scheduled date to accommodate participants over the weekend.

The event catered specifically to students pursuing BA (Honours) in Graphic Design and BA (Hons) in Fashion Marketing, offering an immersive experience tailored to their disciplines. Notably, the Pattern Construction module provided a platform for four students of the Fashion Marketing programme to showcase their talents. Teaming up with models portraying diverse characters, these students crafted outfits that merged artistic vision with technical skill, exemplifying the fusion of design and marketing principles.

Under the expert guidance of Mohd Izzat, participants delved into the intricacies of photography through a captivating workshop titled “Capturing Moments: Exploring the Interplay of Technical Skill and Psychological Insight in Photography.” From mastering DSLR to harnessing the potential of mobile cameras, attendees honed their craft, learning to infuse their images with emotional resonance and narrative depth.

Hands-on activities further enriched the celebration, with participants engaging in interactive workshops and practical photography sessions. Through experimentation with various techniques such as aperture manipulation, motion capture, and compositional refinement, students refined their skills and expanded their creative horizons.

In essence, International Design Day served as a joyous tribute to the profound impact of design on shaping the world’s future. By fostering collaboration, skill development, and creative expression, the event underscored the FDBE’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of visionary designers and innovators.
