MERDEKA CELEBRATION AT FIRST CITY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE

On 26 August 2025, the Student Services Department organised a Merdeka Celebration at the Red Canvas to mark Malaysia’s Independence Day. The event brought together students and staff, many of whom came dressed in vibrant traditional attire, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. Participants posed for a group photo with the Malaysian flag to commemorate the occasion.

As part of the celebration, attendees shared their thoughts on the theme “What Merdeka Means to You” by writing personal messages on a reflection board. Each participant received a handmade batik-designed pouch and chocolates as tokens of appreciation. A slideshow presentation highlighted Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage, iconic landmarks, and Independence Day traditions, while also offering a glimpse of how other countries commemorate their independence.

“Attending the Merdeka event at First City University College was a meaningful experience,” said international student Raufa Majid from the Diploma in Mass Communication programme. “Seeing staff and students in traditional clothes was inspiring, as it showcased Malaysia’s diversity.” Assistant Professor Jackie Wong from the Faculty of Business and Communication added, “Adding my message on the Merdeka wall reminded me of the meaning behind the celebration.”

The event served as a warm reminder of unity and pride within the First City University College community.
