Solving Mysteries to Strengthen English Reading Skills

On 25 September 2026, Foundation in Art and Design and Foundation in Business students took on a mystery-solving challenge during their English Foundation class. “Solve the Mystery: Making Inferences”, conducted by the Centre for Language and Extension Service, encouraged students to read beyond explicitly stated information by identifying clues, connecting ideas and interpreting implied meanings.

Working together to solve a fictional case, students analysed textual evidence and explained the reasoning behind their conclusions. The activity made reading comprehension more engaging while strengthening inferencing, critical reading, discussion and English communication skills.
