STUDENTS EXPERIENCE BCWA’S IMPACT ON BREAST CANCER AWARENESS


A visit to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA) was organised by 6 Team Building Module students on 19 April 2024. They were accompanied by their lecturers, Dr. Ahmad Faris Naqiyuddin bin Mohd Ghazi, Siti Hajar binti Ariffin and Asst Prof Siti Maria binti Mohamad.
The day offered a valuable learning experience, featuring discussions, presentations, interactive activities, and a tour of BCWA’s facilities. The visit aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 – Good Health and Well-being.
Datin Zainab Bt Abdullah, Community Outreach Manager of BCWA began the day with an overview of BCWA’s mission and its role in breast cancer awareness, prevention, and support services. The students then explored BCWA’s facilities, including the Counselling Room, handicraft making room, and the mobile clinic for breast exams. They also donated proceeds from their fundraising activities to support BCWA, helping the organization further its mission and raising awareness about breast cancer.
The Team Leader of Team Building Module; Chan Ze Yen, commented that being part of this activity was not just about learning, it was about coming together as a team to make a difference. The activity makes her feel empowered to advocate for breast health and support those affected by breast cancer.
On another hand, Assistant Team Leader; Cheng Yee Lin said, “Leaving the Breast Cancer Awareness Center, I carry with me a newfound appreciation for life and a commitment to spreading awareness. Visiting BCWA opened my eyes to the bravery and beauty of those touched by this disease”
The visit concluded with a group photo, capturing moments of connection among students, BCWA representatives, and community outreach nurses. This collaborative effort demonstrated the impact of education, empathy, and community engagement in promoting well-being and positive change.
