Research Workshop Strengthens Academic Staff’s Capacity in Topic Development


A workshop on Research Foundations and Topic Development was conducted on 15 April 2026 at the Centre for Postgraduate Studies, First City University College, as part of a research capacity building initiative for academic staff.
Led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Vincent Wee Eng Kim, the session introduced key principles of academic research, focusing on identifying research gaps and developing clear problem statements. Participants engaged in guided discussions and hands-on activities, culminating in the development of two to three potential research topics aligned with their respective disciplines.
The workshop strengthened participants’ ability to conceptualise meaningful research, supporting the development of high-quality academic work and reinforcing the university’s commitment to advancing research excellence.
