BUILDING BRANDS – DR. KENNY LOH’S KEY TO FASHION INDUSTRY SUCCESS
On 12 June 2024, the Faculty of Design and Built Environment hosted a talk titled, “The Journey of Kenny Loh Couture: From Professional Nutritionist to Multi-Awards Winning Fashion Designer.” The talk was presented by Dr. Kenny Loh, founder and CEO of Kenny Loh Couture, who shared his professional journey and invaluable experiences with 17 students from the BA (Hons) in Fashion Marketing and Foundation in Art and Design programmes.
Starting as a professional nutritionist, Dr. Loh made a bold leap into the fashion industry, by setting up Kenny Loh Couture. He has since established himself as a renowned fashion entrepreneur and multi-award-winning designer. His impressive streak of accolades continues, as he recently won the Good Design Awards 2023/24, which he will be receiving after this talk.
During his presentation, Dr. Loh elaborated on his theory of success which includes branding, storytelling, identity and entrepreneurial DNA. He also addressed potential obstacles that may deter the success of a brand or business and provided insights on how to overcome them.
Nur Arinah Bakhtiar, a student from the BA (Hons) in Fashion Marketing programme remarked, “It is inspiring to listen to the talk as it proves that to be a successful brand, we just have to have enough passion, willingness to learn and network. It also tells me that joining competitions, getting awards and learning from our lecturers here will be beneficial in bringing a brand or product to a different height in industry later on.”
Dr. Loh’s visit was a great opportunity for aspiring designers and entrepreneurs. His experiences and achievements highlighted the importance of adaptability, continuous learning, and striving for excellence. The students left the session with renewed enthusiasm and a better understanding of what it takes to succeed in the competitive world of fashion.
