DISCOVER THE POWER OF DATA – ONE CHALLENGE AT A TIME: HANDS-ON LEARNING IN DATA VISUALISATION

On 8 October 2025, the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology hosted a hands-on data workshop, “Discover the Power of Data – One Challenge at a Time,” for students eager to explore the role of data in mathematics and its real-world applications. The session was facilitated by Mr. Cham Kah Loon, Mr. Mohd Sukry Bin Mohd Taib, Mr. Mohd Norfitri Bin Nordin, and Dr. Mohd Ridhwan Hilmi Bin Mohd Adnan.

The workshop began with an introduction to the concept of data, where students actively discussed data collection methods such as questionnaires and interviews. Mr. Cham Kah Loon then demonstrated fundamental types of data visualization, including bar charts, line charts, and pie charts, showing how these tools make data easier to understand and apply.

In the practical session led by Mr. Mohd Sukry Bin Mohd Taib, students applied their knowledge to real-world datasets, transforming raw information into meaningful visual representations. The hands-on activities helped students appreciate how data visualization simplifies complex information, enhances decision-making, and opens avenues for innovative applications.

Students expressed their excitement about learning practical skills that bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world data applications. Many highlighted how the session reshaped their perspective on data and inspired them to explore creative ways to use data visualization in their academic and professional pursuits.

The workshop successfully equipped students with both theoretical foundations and practical skills in data literacy, reinforcing the importance of understanding, analysing, and presenting data in today’s data-driven world.
