Exploring Innovation and Impact through AATA’s Architectural Showcase

On 3 September 2025, students from the Diploma in Interior Design and the Bachelor in Interior Architecture & Design programmes attended the 20 Years of Selected Works Exhibition organised by Atelier Alan The Architect (AATA). The exhibition was more than a display of award-winning projects—it allowed students to see how architectural ideas translate into built spaces that respond to real needs.

The exhibition presented two decades of AATA’s notable works, demonstrating how the firm balances creativity with functionality while addressing client requirements and site constraints. Listening to Alan Teh, principal of AATA, gave students valuable perspective on innovation and bold thinking that shape successful design outcomes.

Michael Peter Gunapalan reflected, “He explained each design, highlighting innovative features and re-imaginative approaches. The models helped us understand the ingenuity of his designs and how they responded to client needs and site contexts. He also shared works by his Masters’ students, showcasing daring approaches to project briefs.”

For Diploma in Interior Design student Eric Chua, the showcase highlighted the profession’s social impact, “It showcased the firm’s best projects, demonstrating design excellence and innovation. All featured projects were built and positively impacted the community, showing how thoughtful design responds to real-life needs. The process shared encouraged students to explore ideas beyond conventional approaches.”

By the end of the visit, students left inspired, with a stronger sense of how thoughtful, context-driven design can shape both spaces and communities—insights they can carry into their own design journey.
