FIRST CITY GRADUATE WINS BRONZE AT FUTURE DESIGN STAR AWARD

Lee Zhu Ying, a graduate from the BA (Honours) Interior Architecture and Design programme at First City University College, made the institution proud by winning the Bronze Award at the prestigious Future Design Star Award (FDSA) competition. Held on 27th March 2025 at M Resort Hotel and organised by ACG Media Sdn Bhd, the event formed part of the Designer of the Year (DOTY) Awards, now in its 15th year.
The FDSA is a newly introduced category designed to spotlight emerging talents from accredited design institutions across Malaysia. Representing First City University College, Zhu Ying’s project was shortlisted alongside top entries from various institutions, with finalists presenting their work before a panel of esteemed industry judges.
Her winning entry, themed around food justice, proposed a one-stop community centre that promotes healthy eating and food accessibility among low-income groups—an initiative aiming to address Malaysia’s rising health disparities through design-led solutions.
“I am truly honoured to receive the Bronze award at this year’s FDSA competition. The experience was enriching, offering me new perspectives and pushing me beyond my comfort zone. I’m especially grateful to my lecturers for their continuous support, which helped shape the project into its final form.” said Zhu Ying.
Zhu Ying’s recognition not only celebrates her individual talent but also upholds First City University College’s commitment to nurturing thoughtful, socially conscious designers ready to contribute meaningfully to the industry.
