We are delighted to announce Dean of Faculty of Engineering & Computing, Dr Christine Lee Siew Ken has been promoted as an Associate Professor for her dedication and commitment in the field of teaching and learning.

Dr Christine said: “I am excited when I was informed of my promotion. I felt my contributions as a Head of Standard Academic Regulations Committee which was set up in April last year and Head of Centre for Excellence in Research and Innovation, has borne fruit”

“As an associate professor, I wish to work with the team to elevate the Faculty and First City UC to greater heights. This achievement does not only belong to me. It is a combined effort of the entire Faculty,” she said.

Dr Christine will continue to work towards enhancing the institution’s position in Research, Development and Commercialisation where her research interest lies in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Internet of Things (IoT), particularly on how AI can solve challenges of big data and data analytics in IoT.

In July this year, Dr Christine has been appointed as a Fellow of the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET). As an AAET fellow, she works with successful ASEAN engineers, technologist and industrialists who play an important role in the overall development of the ASEAN region.

Dr Christine’s high calibre persona has heightened her expertise as she was entrusted with many responsibilities in the education industry. In 2015, she was designated as an External Examiner at a foreign university to evaluate PhD synopsis and thesis. Similarly, she has been minted as an NCC Education, UK Moderator, for their Level 5 Advanced Diploma programmes. As an NCC moderator, she moderates global assignments to ensure that all assessments have the same standard and adhere to the NCC Education grading criteria. Through this experience, Dr Christine enhanced good practices for quality assurance in the Faculty of Engineering & Computing.

Dr Christine who believes in the process of lifelong learning has also obtained the Trainer Certification from the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF), enabling her to contribute to the staff development at First City UC with training programmes.

Armed with a Masters in Computer Science from the University of Wollongong, Australia and PhD in the area of Intelligent Tutoring System, Dr Christine aims to take teaching and learning a step further by introducing new, industry-relevant programmes.

“First City UC will continue to innovate by keeping up with industry demands. These programmes will facilitate students who wish to pursue niche careers in Engineering, Computing and Information Technology fields,” she added.

The programmes which are specifically crafted with the employers’ needs in mind will be taught by professional lecturers who are also industry practitioners in their specialized areas. First City UC is equipped with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities to enhance students’ learning experience. First City UC’s partnership with international universities and industry linkages with established multi-national companies ensure that students are taken through an enriched education journey at the campus.
