First City University College Students Shine at MIID Students’ Saturday 27:12


First City University College’s interior design students showcased their creativity and forward-thinking approach at the MIID Students’ Saturday 27:12 event, held on 11 October 2025 at SEGI University, Kota Damansara. Organised by the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) and hosted by SEGI University, the event themed “Speculative” invited interior design institutions nationwide to envision the future of interior design and push creative boundaries.
Students from the Diploma in Interior Design (DID) and Bachelor of Interior Architecture and Design (BIAD) programmes enthusiastically participated in a range of competition categories, including ideation, installation art, sketching, and recycled material sculpture. Their innovative concepts and design flair earned praise and multiple awards. Among the standout winners were Lee Chai Xuan, who clinched 1st place in Commercial Design, and the team of Lim Tong Ern, Yap Li Xuan, Kong Yuen Theng, and Lee Wei Ya, who secured 1st place for Exposition (Installation Art).
Reflecting on the experience, Chloe Lee from Diploma in Interior Design shared, “This event truly pushed us out of our comfort zones. It wasn’t just about design, it was about imagination, experimentation, and expressing our vision of the future.” Hey Wen Xuan, also from the same programe added, “Seeing so many creative works reignited my passion for design. Malaysia’s young designers are bold, expressive, and ready to challenge conventions.”
MIID Students’ Saturday gave First City University College’s Interior Design students valuable exposure to industry standards, creative exchange, and networking opportunities, helping them grow as confident, future-ready designers.
