FIRST CITY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE STUDENTS SHINE BOTH IN LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL ARENA
Bagging international awards and accolades is not something new for First City University College students. Since 2013, First City UC has been conducting a special awards ceremony to acknowledge and cherish the outstanding performances of the students. Each year the number of students winning awards has been on the increase in both the academic and sports arena.
This year, a total of 72 awards were acquired at the state, national and international levels respectively. At the international level, Leong Chun Kit, a Year 3 Interior Architecture and Design student received a silver award at the Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards (APIDA) 2016 in Hong Kong. APIDA is an international competition organised by Hong Kong Interior Design Association and is a highly coveted competition open for interior design students all over Asia.
On the other hand, Edmond Yap Kam-Yuan from Business Management programme grabbed a Silver (Sparring) and a Bronze (Team Sparring) during the Korea Open International Festival & Asia ITF Taekwondo Championship.
At the national level, the grand prizes won by our students include the MIID 20.5 Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers Reka Awards 2016, Johor Interior Designers’ Association Award 2017 (JIDA) and Malaysian International Jewellery Fair (MIJF) Jewellery Design Award 2017. Other awards bagged by First City UC students include the Asia Pacific Robotic Competition 2017 and a grand prize at E-Genting Bug Hunt 2016.
On the academic front, an AUSMAT student Choo See Yuan and a GCE A-Levels student Vishnoo A/L Ravi made the institution proud by earning the WACE Special Certificate of Distinction for English as an Additional Language/ Dialect and Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for Cambridge International AS Level English Language in the June 2017 examination series respectively.
“The outstanding performance by our students both on the local and international front is a testimony that the university college has molded them to be well-rounded in all aspects of life, be it in academics or in sports. We are proud of their achievements and I am sure that there will be more awards in years to come, “said Ms Yeong Yin Cheng, Chief Operating Officer of First City UC.
The awards ceremony was well-attended by Prof Dr Mak Chai, Vice-Chancellor of First City UC and staff of First City UC.
