TERANG 2025 PROJECTION MAPPING COMPETITION AND GEORGE TOWN FESTIVAL

From 8 to 10 August 2025, Diploma in Graphic Design students from First City University College joined the TERANG 2025 Projection Mapping Competition, held as part of the George Town Festival in Penang. Organised by Filamen, the competition featured large-scale projection mapping on historic buildings. Among the participants, Lee Wen Yi was selected as a finalist, with her animation projected onto the iconic Penang Town Hall.
The trip, led by lecturer Gwendoline Chan Yin Win, gave students their first exposure to large-scale projection mapping and expanded their understanding of digital storytelling in public spaces. They also visited immersive art showcases including “IMMERSIOx,” “Symbiosis: Crab Chronicle,” “The City of Willows,” and “Tofu, Incense and Sky,” which offered unique perspectives on combining technology, culture, and interactivity.
“I felt really touched when I saw my animation projected at the Penang Town Hall,” said Lee Wen Yi. The experience inspired the group to push creative boundaries and explore how design can transform cultural spaces.
