FIELD TRIP TO GENTING FIRST WORLD HOTEL AND SKYWORLD THEME PARK – EXPLORING TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS IN HOSPITALITY
Six students from the Faculty of Business, Hospitality and Communication participated in an educational trip to Genting First World Hotel and Genting Skyworld Theme Park on 28 June 2024. The students—Guat Vichy, Chee U Hock Keyan, Chee Wai Ping, Lee Jia Qian, Beh Kar Mun, and Koi Pui Xin—are currently enrolled in the Diploma in Hotel Management and BBA (Honours) (Hospitality Management) programmes. They were accompanied by 2 lecturers, Nur Khairunnisa Murnisham and Nur Afieqah Mamud.
The main objective of this trip was to incorporate experiential and contextual learning by exposing the students to the industry practice involving technological innovation in the hospitality industry.
Upon arrival at First World Hotel, the students visited the Lobby Observation. This proved to be valuable as it enhanced their knowledge on the usage of technology such as the Self-service Kiosk in ensuring smooth Front Office operations. Subsequently, at the Genting Skyworld Theme Park, the students had an engaging experience investigating the usage of AI and VR for efficient crowd management and queue management.
Chee Wai Ping from Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) (Hospitality Management) reminisced, “Experiencing AI-driven crowd management systems first-hand was eye-opening. The efficiency and seamless integration of technology in managing large crowds were impressive and gave me a new perspective on how we can enhance guest experiences in the future.”
This field trip further expanded the students’ understanding of technological innovations in hospitality and equipped them with practical knowledge applicable to in their future careers in the industry.
