INK AND INSPIRATION: A CELEBRATION OF CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY
The Chinese Calligraphy event hosted by the Chinese Cultural Society (CCS) and Performing Arts Club (PAC) at First City University College was a resounding success, setting the perfect tone for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.
Held on 31 January 2024, from 12pm to 4pm in the vibrant atmosphere of the cafeteria, the event saw enthusiastic participation from both students and staff, with around 50 individuals contributing their creativity and passion to the art of calligraphy. Joining in the fun were Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Saw Sor Heoh and Head of Student Services Weladavi Rahula.
Led by the President of CCS, Gui Zhi Xiang, participants delved into the intricate world of calligraphy, aiming not only for aesthetic beauty but also for the mastery of skillful execution. Each stroke was imbued with intention and meaning, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Chinese writing.
The event’s highlights were as diverse as they were delightful. Participants adorned red paper with auspicious and blessing-filled words, infusing each creation with wishes for a prosperous and harmonious year ahead. Some even ventured into the realm of artistic expression, drawing intricate designs such as majestic dragons, symbols of strength and good fortune.
Moreover, the first 50 participants were rewarded with a special gift from CCS, courtesy of Centrepoint Bandar Utama, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
Overall, the Chinese Calligraphy event was a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional Chinese arts, bringing together the First City University College’s community in a celebration of creativity, culture, and the spirit of the upcoming New Year.
