INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS UNVEILED: FINAL YEAR PROJECT PRESENTATIONS AND INDUSTRY ADVISORY PANEL INSIGHTS
The Industry Advisory Panel Meeting combined with Final Year Project Presentations on 15 December 2023 for the Bachelor of Electronic Engineering with Honours programme was a resounding success. Organized by the Faculty of Engineering and Computing, the event brought together an esteemed group of participants, including industry experts, faculty members led by Assistant Prof Ir. Dr. Tay Ching En Marcus, and students.
The panels, featuring Dr. Lee Weng Fook from Emerald Systems Sdn. Bhd. and Mohd Farid Zainal Abidin from Elvira Systems Sdn. Bhd., provided invaluable feedback to ensure the programme’s curriculum aligns with industry needs. Commending the institution on the use of state-of-the-art teaching facilities, particularly Siemens Electronic Design Automation, the panels acknowledged the students’ familiarity with industry-standard software.
The discussions among panels delved into crucial aspects such as curriculum enhancement, career prospects in IC design, industry project co-supervision, professional exposure through site visits, and the marketing of the programme.
During the visit, the Industry Advisory Panel spent time on the final year project presentations by the students. They expressed admiration for the innovative ‘Advanced Solar Tracker’ projects presented by Quah Yu Jie and Tang Poh Kit. These projects ingeniously leverage the Internet of Things (IoT) for data logging and display through computers. Puan Khai Yau captivated the panel with his presentation on the ‘Automated Waste Sorting System using IoT,’ which employs advanced image recognition technology for the efficient sorting of recyclables. Tang Poh Kit’s project, ‘Enhancing Solar Panel Efficiency: Exploring Fluorescent Acrylic Solar Concentrators with One-Way Mirrors,’ showcased a creative approach to boosting solar energy capture.
These projects not only demonstrated the students’ technical prowess but also reflected their commitment to addressing global challenges. This aligns with the institution’s commitment to fostering socially responsible engineers who can make meaningful contributions to the field.
