Merdeka Reflections Competition – Inspiring National Pride

In conjunction with Malaysia’s Independence Day, the Student Services Department organised the Merdeka Reflections Competition 2025. Held online from 28 August to 15 September, the competition invited students and staff to share short essays on the theme “What Does Merdeka Mean to Me?”, encouraging personal reflections on unity, diversity, and national identity.

Goh Hui Shan, a Diploma in Interior Design student, won the Grand Prize for her heartfelt and insightful entry. “I joined this competition to share my thoughts about being Malaysian, and I honestly didn’t expect to win. I’m really happy to have won first place. Thank you, First City University College,” she shared. Chiang Jia Ru from Diploma in Business Administration and Tan Yune Lynn Jessica, a staff member were named First and Second Runner-Up respectively for their thoughtful submissions.

All participants received tokens of appreciation for their contributions. The competition saw enthusiastic engagement across departments and reflected First City University College’s commitment to fostering patriotism, cultural appreciation, and national pride within its community.
