NEWS UPDATE: FIRST CITY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE’S COMPUTING STUDENTS SHINE AGAIN IN VARSITY HACKATHON 2024 GRAND FINAL
First City University College’s computing students once again proved their prowess at the Varsity Hackathon 2024 Grand Final, hosted by the Computer Science Society of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in collaboration with Securities Commission Malaysia.
Competing against 250 teams from local and international higher learning institutions, the team from First City University College comprising Lee Zhi Guan, Cornileus Jasper Patrick, Carmen Lau Kar-Wei, and Ong Kai Jie showcased their innovation and skill to secure a spot in the Top 15 during the preliminary rounds. Their journey culminated in the Grand Final held at USM on 20 April 2024, where they emerged as one of the Top 10 teams.
The team’s success highlights the quality of computing education and the nurturing environment provided by First City University College. By excelling in a competitive environment like Varsity Hackathon, the team showcases their technical abilities and ability to collaborate, innovate, and think critically under pressure. Winning the consolation prize further solidifies their position as emerging talents in the field of computer science.
Securing a spot among the Top 10 teams in the Grand Final and clinching the consolation prize in the international competition has filled First City University College with pride. These achievements ignited much inspiration, especially among the computing community at First City University College.
