PETALING JAYA, 30th MAY 2019 – THE oval concourse of 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya, was abuzz with activity as First City University College (FCUC) held its annual Sequence graduation showcase.

In its 15th edition, the showcase featured the authentic and innovative works of 140 final-year students of the Design and Built Environment Faculty (FDBE).

Participating students will be completing their BA (Hons) Graphic Design, BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design and BA (Hons) Furniture and Product Design programmes conducted at FCUC in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

Themed “Celebrate Milestone”, Sequence 2018 also celebrates the young graduates as they enter a new chapter in life after graduation.

“This event serves as a platform to expose our future designers to the public and industry professionals as well as for prospective employers to look out for their potential employees.

“Some of the graduating students have already been offered jobs even before their final-year results are announced.

“This is indeed a feather in the cap for our graduating students as well as for us as a provider of industry-relevant degree education and training in design and built environment.

“Also, this is testimony to the quality of our lecturers and the availability of state-of-the-art equipment and learning facilities,” he said.

To keep students abreast of developments in the design industry, Teo pointed out that FCUC provides degree students with free membership to Malaysia Institute of Interior Designer (MIID) and also collaborates with associations such as Malaysia Design Council, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Furniture Industry Association and the Malaysia chapter of The International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI).

“Through such collaborations, we have built valuable industry links to benefit our students in terms of internships and graduate employment,” he added.

Teo also announced the list of FDBE graduating students that have been awarded first-class degrees.

In conjunction with the momentous occasion, FCUC introduced its new BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing under FDBE, which was marked by a fashion show featuring eclectic pieces of summer festival, androgynous and retro themes.

Specially crafted for aspiring fashion entrepreneurs, the three-year degree programme will commence in January next year.

Other activities included interactive booths such as The Creative Stove which featured handmade products and artworks by Design students, a handicraft area created by FDBE, a cooking demonstration booth by the Business Hospitality and Communication Studies Faculty students and a showcase of games, animation and robotics by students of the Engineering and Computing Faculty.
