KBU IS NOW FIRST CITY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE

KBU International College has achieved two significant milestones by being recognised as a University College on its 25th Anniversary. With the new recognition, KBU International College will now be officially known as First City University College (First City UC).

To celebrate these two auspicious occasions, a ceremony was held on 2 December 2015 on the campus grounds here in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya officiated by Puan Sri Teo Soo Cheng, wife of the Founder of KBU, the late Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Teo Soo Cheng.

“This upgrade is a natural progression for an institution which has 25 years of excellence in creating many business leaders, professionals and entrepreneurs. With this recognition, First City UC will offer quality home-grown honours degree programmes, for example Fashion Marketing & Branding, Computer Networking & Engineering, Business & Human Resource, Business & Psychology, Mass Communication, Hospitality & Tourism Management, Product & Design and Intelligent System,” said Prof. Dr. Ho Chee Cheong, Vice-Chancellor of First City University College, in his welcoming speech.

Puan Sri Teo Soo Cheng, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Yahaya bin Ibrahim (Chairman of the Board of Governors), and Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Teo Chiang Liang (Director of First City Corporation Sdn. Bhd., parent company of First City UC) launched the ceremony by unveiling the new crest of the University College.

Guests were then treated to singing and dance performances by First City UC’s talented students while enjoying lunch.
Established in 1990 with the mission of providing quality and affordable education to all, KBU grew from its initial 6 units of 4-storey shoplots to a well-equipped purpose-built campus in 1995. And today, with more than two decades of achievements and excellence, the University College is expanding further with Phase II of its campus, slated to be completed in 2016.

Prof. Dr. Ho added, “With the completion of Phase II which will incorporate the elements of a green campus, students will enjoy an enriched educational experience with state-of-the-art facilities housed in a modern, purpose-built academic block which includes a food court, a fully equipped library, a computer centre, in-door sports facilities (basketball and futsal courts) and a hostel block with air-conditioned en-suite rooms.”

Besides its strong academic credentials, KBU has been known for providing affordable education and its attractive scholarship schemes – something that First City UC will reinforce in the years to follow.

Prof Dr. Ho added: “This is a significant milestone that will pave the way for new initiatives and growth under the University College regime. It augurs well for us to play a prominent role in the implementation of the 11th Malaysia Plan, through supporting the acceleration of human resource development necessary for an advanced nation. Other than that, our philosophy of an affordable quality university education aims to nurture morally sound, well-rounded graduates and individuals equipped with critical knowledge and skill sets relevant for nation building.”
