SUSTAINABLE ACTION – STUDENTS TAKE CHARGE IN PROTECTING MARINE LIFE

Four students; Phoebe Yeo, Oon Annie, Ashley Khaw, and Wang Xuan Ni – from Beachsaviours’ Team Building Module took part in a beach cleaning movement at Pantai Redang, Sekinchan on 9 April 2024. This initiative closely aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water.

With a deep concern for the environment, the students effectively combatted marine pollution, gathering approximately 20 bags of trash, including plastic bottles and bags, from the shoreline.

Their active engagement emphasizes the significant impact of youth-led efforts in preserving marine ecosystems and promoting sustainability. By leaving the shoreline cleaner and spreading a crucial message of environmental care, their action inspires others to participate in creating a more sustainable future for marine life.

Oon Annie remarked that participating in the beach cleanup was a novel experience, as they encountered various types of waste tarnishing the beach’s once unspoiled beauty.

Phoebe Yeo stated the stark contrast between animals’ clean habitats and the litter left by humans urges responsible behaviour towards the environment.
