For more than 30 years, First City UC has played a pivotal role in grooming the artistic talents of many students to enter the workforce as versatile interior, graphic and even product designers. In fact, many First City UC graduates are known to have successfully secured jobs even before completing their studies. So, what is the secret behind this enduring success?
Firstly, every First City UC design student is a beneficiary of FDBE’s industry partnerships with professional design bodies such as the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers, Malaysian Design Council and wREGA. Secondly, students are provided with ample opportunities to participate (and even win prizes) in high profile competitions, collaborate with prominent brands, attend talks and even participate in industry site visits.
Students with Foundation, UEC or A-Level qualifications are enrolled into Year 1 of FDBE’s Bachelor Degree programmes whereas students with a relevant Diploma can progress to Year 2.
If you have a passion for creating marketable products or furniture, the BA (Honours) Furniture & Product Design programme is the right fit for you. Students get to learn about various product materials and their properties, cultivate their personal design and conceptual thinking skills and also master industry-related software.
In order to boost their technical skills and awareness of industry standards, students participate in furniture and product exhibitions, competitions and even industry collaborative projects.
Just before they complete their studies, students have the opportunity to display their Final Year projects in the annual graduation showcase event. This event is a golden opportunity for students to demonstrate their product design prowess to invited industry partners.
Moreover, they will undergo a mandatory internship with various furniture & product design companies and manufacturers, with the purpose of developing their soft skills at the workplace.
Wood Workshop
Students will undergo classes such as the Textile Studies module in the well-equipped Fashion Studio.
Keen to be the next successful Fashion Entrepreneur? The BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing programme helps you fulfil your ambition by giving you an in-depth understanding of fashion marketing and its branding practices, along with relevant business-related skills.
Lessons include learning to identify and analyse consumer behaviour and consumers’ role in the fashion industry. This further develops students’ confidence to engage the global fashion marketing and branding environment.
To ensure students gain valuable exposure to the industry standards and refine their soft skills, they will participate in mandatory live projects and undergo internships with various fashion design & marketing related companies.
With these advantages, graduates are bound to make waves by launching their own competitive brands in the national and global fashion market.
